I have been practicing family law since 1986 as a lawyer and a mediator. Before that I was a police officer for seven years. I have seen many different family situational and on-going disputes. A decision to separate or divorce can be incredibly stressful, not only for the spouses but also the children, whether younger or older. Although there are several options to resolve family issues, I have found that using the collaborative process is not only more economical than going to court, but results in far more acceptable settlements that are arrived at much earlier than traditional negotiations.
